A Horror Story: A True Story: Sadly, Our Story
“Truly I tell you, just as you did to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.”
Pretend you are in a thriller or fantasy movie. Suddenly, a small group grabs you, binds you, and puts you on a plane or spaceship. You are bound with a group of people, and you do not recognize anyone. All the prisoners look scared or blank-faced. The guards avoid eye contact. When people try to talk, they are made to remain silent. No one tells them where they are going, how long they will be in the air, or what will happen when they land. If it sounds like a cheesy novel, it is non-fiction. Worse, the abusive government isn’t some authoritarian regime like the Death Star or Iran. Instead, the cruel instigator is the United States government.
I am not done with this horror tale. When these prisoners land, they get out and recognize nothing. They soon realize that they are not only NOT in the United States, but also not in their country of origin. Many will soon find they are on a different continent from their home and family in the United States or their birth country. Now, instead of empathizing with the faceless mass of people experiencing this injustice, take a moment and visualize this story with you as the one radically displaced. Without being able to speak the language, without financial means, and without any technology, how would you survive?
According to the CBS News website, on the evening of August 31, 2026, “Internal U.S. government documents obtained exclusively by CBS News show that more than 100 deportees from Afghanistan, Cuba, Nicaragua and other countries have been sent to eight African nations.” The report continues, “Some have criminal records, but many have no criminal history beyond immigration violations.” How can these same governmental leaders who allowed this type of deportation to occur call us a “Christian Nation.” We should be ashamed of our government for this sinful action. God is certainly ashamed of us.
Who are we? We are Americans! If you are reading this devotion, you are probably a Christian. You should not call yourself a Christian and remain silent about the injustice of our government’s immigrant deportation policies. If you must choose between American policy and God’s divine justice, choose God. In the heinous act of “third-country deportation,” choosing both is out of the question. Disagreeing with our present administration’s deportation policies is not enough. Praying for God to act is vital, but not enough. Prayer and using your voice as a citizen of this nation are essential if you are going to act in accordance with God’s will. Pray, but also speak out! Together, we can become the country we should desire.
