Life Worth Living: A Guide to What Matters Most By Miroslav Volf, Matthew Croasmun, and Ryan McAnnally-Linz

I was introduced to theologian Miroslav Volf by Dr. Joseph Small, the former director of the PCUSA Office of Theology and Worship. I've appreciated theological books by Volf that I've read previously, but Life Worship Living was not only informative, but also an inspiring faith director. Volf's book forces the reader to consider "What Matters Most." Volf doesn't write simple reads, but I would describe it as more accessible. When was the last time you opened a mainline theologian's book and found that a famous former reporter and celebrity had written the opening recommendation? Maria Shriver writes a full-page letter to the reader included inside the cover, encouraging the reader to join her on the journey of learning with Volf's book.

I love how Miroslav Volf brings Christian theology to life and how theological reflection meaningfully speaks to our lives. While the chapters ask simple questions like, "What's Worth Wanting?", "What Should We Hope For?", and what we do when "…When Life Hurts…". Volf guides us into the deep end of our faith journey and exposes the areas where our intellectual beliefs do not align with our actions and emotional understanding. Take the leap and read it. Yet, more importantly, work it like a Christian life guide and reflect on it, allowing it to take your life in new directions.
