The Mind of God by Dr. Jay Lombard

On August 9, 2026, I stood up in the pulpit and once again talked about something beyond my understanding. But I make up for my limited knowledge by quoting authors who know more about certain subjects than I do. Dr. Jay Lombard helped me speak of faith from a perspective I knew little about. Dr. Lombard is a behavioral neurologist and argued for the existence of God from a neurological perspective. In The Mind of God, Lombard challenges the reader to embrace science as a gateway to the supernatural realm of God.

Dr. Lombard proclaims, “Neuroscience offers us a window into the material basis of our immaterial existence.” Even when I didn’t fully understand Dr. Lombard’s technical details, I trusted his scholarship because he is the Chief of Neurology at Westchester Square Medical Center and Bronx Lebanon Hospital, as well as an Assistant Professor at New York Hospital and Albert Einstein College of Medicine. His credentials made me believe him, even though I didn’t fully understand the science. Yet, before I give the wrong impression, I must admit that Dr. Lombard does an admirable job explaining neurology, physics, and other scientific examples in a way that even I can understand.

More importantly, Dr. Lombard describes scientific understanding and how it bridges to the spiritual realm. For example, Lombard understands the material as a map to synchronicity with each other and with our God. Lombard reminds us that science affirms that the human species is hardwired to faith in something beyond the material. After affirming that we are hardwired for faith, Lombard continues with scientific arguments that reflect an immaterial, spiritual existence. Lombard affirms that goodness and virtue transcend our biology and mirror the mind of God.

I encourage you to read Dr. Lombard’s The Mind of God because it reaffirmed my belief in God. It was comforting to hear such a brilliant and accomplished mind not only open to God, but also show us a path from seeing with a mind for the material to also witnessing the immaterial. Something within me needed to hear, with scientific language, an affirmation of science, while showing that science is a tool that helps guide our way to recognizing God’s existence. I hope your reading of The Mind of God will inspire you as well.
